Try out our new bathing box! What is a bathing box you might ask? Read on to find out!

An important feature of the beach were the bathing machines, or bathing vans, which were essentially wooden huts with wheels that were used from the late eighteenth to the early twentieth century. Inside each one there was generally was a bench, a flannel gown and towels.

The bather, generally a woman, would change into her bathing costume inside the van. Then the machine was wheeled or slid into the water either by horses or people.

Fun cycle raises €1,700 for South Westmeath Hospice ending at Tramore Beach

Two local families recently raised €1,700 for the South Westmeath Hospice by holding family fun cycle from Moate to Athlone.

On July 2 while the Triathlone was getting underway members of the Doran and Gleeson families held a family fun cycle in aid of South Westmeath Hospice.
